i have enjoyed this drink in multiple cities, states, even out lying countries of the US. but i have to say, the best bloody mary hails out of stevens point wisconsin at a joint called rustys backwater saloon. their mediocre website does not even begin to explain the deliciousness served in a large cup with enough fixings to feed you for a day.
they are good and they know it, "we are very proud of our bloody marys. we think that it may be the best bloody mary you have every tasted!" and boy, were they right. in order to give you the full description without drooling over the keyboard, i first must give you the image of rustys location.
stevens point is a rural area smack dab in the middle of wisconsin, home of the UWSP pointers. rustys isn't just some college bar, it is a bar tucked away in the middle of no where, you enter and its a shrine of the wisconsin life with images dating back from centurys ago. rusty, a rough and gruff (but amazingly friendly) man operates the bar with his dog by his side, rusty is also responsible for starting the tradition of offering amazing bloody marys, at any time of the day.
what makes this drink the best i ever had has so much more to do with the pristine mixture of the best ingredients in wisconsin, a spicy but delicious tomato mixed, the perfect amount of vodka, and the best fixins' i've ever had complete with pickles, olives, pickled asparagus, and a spicy beef stick big enough to cover your dinner, all served out of an old fashioned mason jar, along with a "snit" of beer for a chaser.
by far, the best bloody mary in the midwest.
